HELP Appeal funds new helipad lighting at Queen’s Hospital, Romford

The HELP Appeal is proud to announce the successful installation of new lighting on the Queen’s Hospital helipad in Romford, after covering the entire cost of £9,648. This new development marks a significant milestone in emergency medical care in the region, ensuring that air ambulances can now safely land 24/ 7 on the hospital helipad for the first time.

Previously, the lack of lighting on the helipad restricted the ability of air ambulances to land at night or in low-visibility conditions. With the installation of state-of-the-art lighting, this challenge has been overcome, improving the hospital’s capacity to receive urgent medical cases around the clock.

Key benefits of the new helipad lighting:

  • More accessibility: Air ambulances will now be able to land safely during darkness hours, ensuring more critical patients receive timely medical intervention.
  • Improved patient outcomes: Faster access to the hospital – which has a primary stroke unit – any time of the day or night meaning quicker treatment for patients in critical condition, increasing the chances of recovery.

Robert Bertram, Chief Executive of the HELP Appeal said:

“By funding this lighting system, we are making a crucial difference in the lives of patients in the region who require urgent care. Air ambulances are often the fastest and most effective way to bring critically ill or injured patients to the hospital, and now, with the ability to land during the hours of darkness, we are enhancing the service and care patients receive. We are incredibly proud to have supported this vital project.”

The installation of this lighting system was made possible by the generous donations of the HELP Appeal’s supporters, whose commitment to improving emergency care for the most critically ill in the country, has allowed the charity to fund projects that make a direct impact on patient safety and wellbeing.

This upgrade is part of the HELP Appeal’s mission to improving emergency care wherever it is needed.
