With sporting events back on the County Air Ambulance HELP Appeal’s fundraising calendar, the Midland Monster 2021 Sportive will now be held on Sunday 16 May 2021 after it couldn’t take place this year due to Covid-19.
The cycling event, organised by CC Giro cycling club, has raised over £21,000 for us, which helps to improve patient care and NHS hospital helipads across the country. All rides start and finish at the Rosliston Forestry Centre, Derbyshire, where all facilities are on the one site including registration, free parking, toilets and the Hub cafe.
There are a number of rides to choose from again this year, including the new Mega Monster – a 140 mile challenge that takes the riders through the incredible scenery of the Peak District, Derbyshire Dales and Staffordshire countryside. They will still have the original Midland Monster – 104 miles, Mezzo Monster – 74 miles, Mini Monster – 44 miles.
All rides have a £35 entry fee or the Early bird entry of £30 and for the second year, we will have the Family ride of 5-10 miles for just £10.
The original routes were designed by John Perks, a former international rider, Falcon professional and National Junior Road Coach. John has now retired from organising the Midland Monster Sportive but continues to offer his valuable support in the background.
The routes represent a good challenge for all abilities, offering the testing but stunning beauty of the Derbyshire Peaks and Dales as well as the delights of tranquil Staffordshire lanes.
For the benefit of all cyclists, the first 15 miles of the routes are marshalled as riders become accustomed to following over 300 directional arrows and cautionary signs displayed around the whole circuit. Motorcycle marshals will also be on hand to assist with any mechanical issues and feed stations will be available every 35 miles as well as refreshments waiting at the finish.
