Lesley Knight, HELP Appeal ambassador and fundraiser, has won Woman and Home magazine’s Community Hero of the Year.
After learning how Lesley lost her only son Tom who was tragically killed in a traffic accident after being flown to hospital by air ambulance with no helipad nearby and having to land on the street – many of Woman and Home’s 285,000 readers voted for her to win the award.
Woman and Home said:
“Turning her grief into something positive, Lesley began fundraising for the HELP Appeal and has helped to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds.”
On the achievement that Lesley is most proud of, she said: “The building of so many helipads, meaning that though the loss of my son, many lives have been saved.”
HELP Appeal’s Chief Executive Robert Bertram and the whole team are absolutely thrilled for Lesley – ‘it’s so well deserved!’
